USDA Awards HCFM SNAP Support Grant

USDA Awards HCFM SNAP Support Grant

We are very excited to share this news – USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service awarded Hub City Farmers’ Market, Eat Smart Move More South Carolina, and the University of South Carolina’s Center for Research in Nutrition and Health Disparities a Farmers Market SNAP Support Grant.

What will it mean for HCFM and SNAP shoppers? It means better customer service, better awareness in our community for families in need, more outreach, more resources, and closer ties between farmers and SNAP users. We will use our portion of the grant to create a “SNAP Champion” position, which will in turn work throughout all of Spartanburg to connect the roughly 14,000 families in the county on SNAP with our market. Ultimately, it means healthier families, more opportunities for farmers to sell their produce and proteins, and a more connected community. USDA has recognized the three partner organizations as state leaders in connecting SNAP users to markets, and we look forward to growing SNAP use over the next two years.
