Mobile Market Manager

Hub City Farmers Market (HCFM) mission statement: We work to increase the supply, demand, and access to healthy, local food in Spartanburg County.

Purpose of the Mobile Market: to sell healthy, local food to people throughout Spartanburg County where they live, work, and play thus increasing access to healthy, local food and avenues for local farmers and food producers to sell their products.

Position Summarized:

This entry-level position will have the primary responsibility of running the Mobile Market, acting as the face of the organization at Mobile Market stops, and coordinating new stops. Additionally, the Mobile Market Associate will assist the Farm Manager in their duties. This position reports to the Executive Director. This is a full-time, hourly, 40-hour/week position. Flexible weekday and weekend hours are required.

  • Maintaining and growing Mobile Market stops
  • Giving outstanding service to customers
  • Educating customers on new produce
  • Building partnerships across the community
  • Assisting the Farm Manager with the Urban Farm and other projects

The ideal Mobile Market Manager will have:

  • Willingness to learn about agriculture and specialty crops
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends
  • Willingness to work manual labor, occasional lifting of 10-50 lbs
  • Willingness to drive a truck and trailer
  • Clear fingerprint/background check required
  • Clean driving record
  • Excellent verbal communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills to effectively work with a variety of people and personalities; ability to communicate clearly in person and in writing
  • Basic computer and time management skills

Salary: Hourly, $12-$13/hour

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Outreach Coordinator

Purpose of the Position: To increase the number of people aware of SNAP benefits and assist potentially-eligible SNAP recipients with completing applications for SNAP benefits.

Position Summarized:

The Hub City Farmers Market is hiring a part-time (20 hrs/wk) SNAP Outreach Coordinator to assist in the prevention of hunger and food insecurity through SNAP outreach efforts in Spartanburg County. This is a one-year, grant-funded position with the possibility of renewal after one year. This position reports to the Executive Director. Flexible weekday hours and hours during the Saturday Market are required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working with community agencies, churches, and organizations to provide education and outreach to potentially eligible SNAP recipients via person to person contact and special events.
  • Educating potentially eligible SNAP recipients on the application process.
  • Providing direct assistance in gathering required supporting documents including semi-annual and annual reviews for at least 5 individials and families each week.
  • Maintaining the SNAP Outreach booth at the Saturday Farmers Market, including setup and break down, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. The market is open every Saturday until mid-December and one Saturday in January, February, and March, 2018.
  • Utilitze SNAP Outreach resources provided by the USDA and DSS, including pre-screening tools and SNAP state policy guidelines, in assisting potentially eligible SNAP recipients

Skills/Requirements:

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Sensitivity to multi-cultural and multi-ethnic populations

Salary: Hourly, $12/hour
