Things seem to happen in big, exciting bursts around here. We have a myriad of projects happening all at once, so I wanted to provide as many updates to them as I can.
Food Truck: there is a new, homegrown food truck coming to Spartanburg. We originally hoped it would debut at the Saturday market this coming weekend, but it looks like it will be pushed back to mid-August. We will update (very loudly) once we know. We have worked with the truck’s owner to develop a good menu that features a lot of produce and protein that will come directly from the market! This truck will be at the Saturday markets, but will also be a fixture downtown and around Spartanburg. We think it is a great sign for our community to see innovative food initiatives appearing on the scene.
Northside Community Teaching Farm: if you have not seen the development of our teaching farm on Magnolia Street, you are really missing out! We are replacing vacant lots with a small community farm (I hope the pictures give at least a vague idea of the transformation!). Sara Harding will be leading classes on a variety of topics there most Saturdays for the rest of the year – now is your chance to learn and change our urban environment (and yours too). Click here for more details.
Feeding Innovation: working in conjunction with many, many partners, including Clemson Extension, SBDC, SCORE, SERN, USC Upstate’s The George, and South Carolina Community Loan Fund, we have brought the incredible “Feeding Innovation” business training program to Spartanburg this fall! Free business training, networking, and mentoring, all with an toward developing and expanding food-based businesses that make access to healthy food an important component of their work. Learn more here, deadline to apply is August 21.
Mobile Market: we’ll have a formal update soon, but the Mobile Market is on a record pace for stops this year. We are always looking for new hosts, so please email us at email@example.com if you would like to have the Mobile Market visit your office, church, or community center.
Feedback/Surveys: watch for some surveys coming soon – we want to know what you think of us! We’ll be looking for feedback on the markets, vendors, activities, and more. Your voice matters, and we want to make sure we are responsive to your needs.
Farm Dinner!: It’s back! After 4 years, we bring back the Farm Dinner! On September 26, our friends from The Farmer’s Table will be bringing the Farm Dinner to Harvest Park. 5 local courses paired with 5 wines, add music and friends, and you have the makings of an epic evening! All proceeds benefit HCFM, so your great meal will taste even better knowing it benefits an organization you love. Purchase tickets online, at the market, or at The Farmer’s Table.
Friends of the Market: it’s August, it’s National Farmers Market Week, and it’s time to become a Friend of the Market. You can make a direct impact on HCFM’s great work! Learn more about what we do, and how you can help us, on our Donate page. Your tax-deductible contribution will make an immediate and powerful impact on our work in the community!
Thanks for your support! We are having a great year, and we are looking forward to bigger and better to come!
